IPA SVP & General Counsel Anya Coverman Selected as Recipient for Industry Women of Influence Award
Colleagues,
I am writing with great pleasure to inform you that Anya Coverman was selected as a recipient of GlobeSt.’s 2021 Women of Influence list in the Independent/Non-Business Professional category.
Please join me in congratulating Anya, as well as our fellow IPA members who were selected, for this prestigious recognition.
Since 1983, GlobeSt. Real Estate Forum has recognized a growing number of women in commercial real estate for their remarkable achievements. This year, they received a record number of applications from across the industry.
In the Independent/Non-Business Professional category, GlobeSt. selected female leaders who work within a non-corporate environment, such as an industry association, academia, think tank, nonprofit or government entity. All of the women in this category have offered significant contributions to the industry and have earned a reputation for their expertise and success.
Anya’s passion for the critical role that industry associations play in bringing our collective voice to policymakers and its impact on the commercial real estate space specifically has been evident throughout her tenure with the IPA.
Upon joining our team as Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel, Anya immediately made a measurable impact. For example, her work was instrumental to a successful campaign to protect Section 1031, which was on the chopping block in negotiations surrounding the sweeping 2017 tax reform bill—the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. She successfully worked closely with regulators to represent our industry and the individuals we serve in the debate surrounding the 2016 U.S. Department of Labor fiduciary rule, and subsequent federal and state proposals. She is also being recognized for her work with both legislators and regulators on the implementation of the qualified opportunity zone program.
Today, Anya is working on new legislation to support greater foreign investment in the U.S. real estate market, a cornerstone of a strong economic recovery, and is tirelessly supporting the IPA’s efforts to once again protect Section 1031. She has also been actively involved in legislative discussions surrounding pandemic relief and rental assistance payments to both landlords and tenants.
The IPA is grateful for Anya’s impact on our organization and our industry. I hope you will all join me in congratulating Anya on this achievement!
Sincerely,
Tony Chereso
