IPA Welcomes Gina Gombar as Vice President of Government Affairs and Associate General Counsel
WASHINGTON, April 4, 2022 – The Institute for Portfolio Alternatives (IPA) today announced that Gina Gombar has joined the association as Vice President of Government Affairs and Associate General Counsel. In this newly created role, Gombar will further enhance and expand the IPA’s advocacy efforts and engagement with key decision makers.
Gombar will work directly with Anya Coverman, Senior Vice President, Government Affairs and General Counsel on the legal, regulatory and legislative priorities of the IPA and our membership, as well as help drive engagement with all legislative and regulatory bodies. In this newly created role, Gombar will focus on advancing the IPA’s policy priorities to ensure we maintain the high level of engagement and advocacy that our members have grown to expect.
“Gina’s strong legal and regulatory background coupled with her deep industry expertise position her well to further advance the mission of the IPA and our ongoing advocacy efforts,” Tony Chereso, IPA President and Chief Executive Officer, said. “Her understanding of our industry, the regulatory landscape and our members’ priorities will make her a valuable member of our team from day one.”
Gombar joins the IPA from LPL Financial where she served as Vice President and Associate General Counsel in the Compliance, Legal and Risk Department. During her seven year tenure, she served in various capacities, advising the firm on state regulatory and legal compliance, risk management and government relations, and representing the firm in SEC, FINRA and state securities regulatory examinations and investigations.
Gombar began her legal career as a regulator, spending 14 years as an attorney with the Massachusetts Securities Division within the office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth. She began her career representing the Enforcement Section in securities regulatory investigations and administrative adjudicatory proceedings, ultimately serving as Deputy Enforcement Chief.
“The IPA is an invaluable advocate for the alternatives industry,” Gombar said, “I am excited to join such a talented team of advocates and help ensure our industry is being heard by legislators and regulators at all levels.”
Gombar graduated cum laude from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and New England Law Boston and teaches Appellate Advocacy as an adjunct faculty member at New England Law.
